OFFICIAL RULES
Who May Enter
Any commercial winery or distributor in the U.S. or Worldwide who meet Class definitions (see below) for Green wines and meet legal requirements for sale in the United States are eligible for entry.
Your wines must be generally available for purchase in restaurants, retail outlets, or online.
Classes & Definitions
Class 1: Certified Biodynamically Grown and Produced
Wines made from grapes certified by Biodyvin (France) or Demeter (USA or International)
Wines entered in this category must be made from biodynamically grown grapes from certified vineyards. Acceptable third-party agencies include Biodyvin (France). and Demeter (USA or International). Proof of current certification must accompany your entry.
In addition to being certified organic, grapes grown in these vineyards must follow specified vineyard practices and in winemaking must adhere to required standards, such as using no genetically modified yeasts or enzymes.
Class 2: Certified Organic Wines
Wines made from certified organically grown grapes and produced in a certified organic production facility.
Wines in this category must be made from grapes grown in certified organic vineyards and then produced following certified organic guidelines in certified organic production facilities. This means the grapes are grown without the use of chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, and the production equipment is used solely for the production of organic wines, and has never been used for non-organic wine production. Certification may be given by any USDA accredited third party agency such as CCOF, Oregon TILTH, France's ECOCERT, or Australia's ACO, etc. A copy of the up-to-date certification must be included with your entry.
A certifier statement on your label (such as USDA Organic) may also be used as proof for this category.
Class 3: Certified Organically Grown Grapes
Wines made from certified organically grown grapes.
Wines in this category must be made from grapes grown in certified organic vineyards. This means that grapes are grown without the use of chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. Certification may be given by an accredited third party agency, such as CCOF, Oregon TILTH, or France's ECOCERT. An up-to-date copy of your certification from CCOF, Oregon Tilth, France's ECOCERT, etc., must be included with your entry.
Class 4: Transitional
Wines made from grapes grown in vineyards transitioning to organic or biodynamic certification.
This category is intended for those vineyards undertaking organic or biodynamic certification that have not yet completed the certification process. Proof of enrollment with third party certification agency (Demeter International, CCOF, Oregon TILTH, or France's ECOCERT must accompany your entry.
WHAT WINES QUALIFY TO COMPETE
Table, sparkling, fortified, fruit, and speciaty wines produced in any of the wine producing regions of the world and that meet applicable Class definitions and legal requirements for sale in the United States are eligible for entry.
HOW TO ENTER
Entries must be listed on the official entry form, either directly online or using an official entry form requested from info@greenwinecomp.info or downloaded from this site.
When using the paper entry from, please complete the ENTIRE form and sign to certify that the statements on the form are correct.
Wineries that misrepresent applicable certifications or any information will be disqualifies from this and subsequent Green Wine Competitions. Wine Competition Management, LLC, the producers of this competition, respect the integrity of Biodynamic(R) and organic wines and will strive to uphold their standards.
Failure to complete the form properly and remit the required labels may result in disqualifications.
AN OFFICIAL ENTRY CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING:
- Completed entry form
- Proof of certification for your Class (see definitions)
- A fee: Online Entry, $85. per wine, Paper/Fax Entry $95 per wine until June 1, 2009. After June 1, entry fees: Online Entry, $100. per wine, Paper/Fax Entry $110 per wine until June 8, 2009.
- A label for each wine entered
- Four (4) bottles of wine, each bottle no less than 750 ml (or more than 32 oz) in volume. If entering a dessert or other wine bottled in 375 ml, an entry will consist of six (6) bottles, plus entry form, certification, label, and entry fee per wine entered.
- PLEASE NOTE -- Any wine that is delivered to the competition without a full and proper label will be disqualified from the judging. We will not accept wines with laboratory, temporary, photocopied or altered labels, and your entry fee will not be refunded.
